JOB POSTING: ASSISTANT MANAGER, CHAPEL HILL FARMERS’ MARKET
Start Date: ASAP
Title: Assistant Manager (Tuesday Market), Double Bucks Coordinator
Commitment: 12-16 hours per week, mostly on Tuesday (In-Person)
Seasonality: Hours may be scaled back during winter months, December – March
Overview:
The Chapel Hill Farmers’ Market was started in April 2008 by Farmers of Orange, a state non-profit organization created for local farmers by local farmers. All of our farmers and artisans live within 60 miles of Chapel Hill, NC and bring fresh quality produce, value-added farm products, and crafts to market year-round. 
The market is located at University Place mall in Chapel Hill. The mall is currently undergoing a large redevelopment project that is set to transform the site into a sought-after destination and retail opportunity in the heart of Chapel Hill. Right next door to Blue Hill District, a dynamic neighborhood with high population growth, University Place is being redefined to house a diverse mix of local retail, dining, working and living, and has committed to keeping a home here for the Chapel Hill Farmers’ Market. 
Position Description
The Assistant Market Manager reports to the Market Manager and is responsible for assisting the Market Manager in the successful operation and growth of the Chapel Hill Farmers’ Market. This includes overseeing and executing the operation of all Tuesday markets (April - November) as well as assigned Saturday markets, maintaining property and equipment of the market, promoting relationships with the greater Triangle Community, and communicating with all of the stakeholders of the market including customers, vendors, and the broader community.
The Assistant Market Manager position requires an individual who can independently prioritize and complete a diverse range of responsibilities. The Assistant Market Manager’s primary responsibilities include:
  • Attending & managing each market as arranged with the Market Manager
  • The Assistant Market Manager is responsible for the smooth running of each market they attend, including street signs, vendor compliance with all rules & regulations, coordinating with the board and other market employees and volunteers on special events, Double Bucks initiatives, token sales, and collecting market data for every market including vendor & customer attendance numbers and vendor sales data.
  • Maintaining market property & equipment – vehicle, tables, tents, signs, etc.
  • Attend monthly board meetings when deemed necessary by the Market Manager
  • Attend marketing committee meetings as needed.
The Assistant Market Manager will also support the Market by:
  • Promoting and managing special events at the market.
  • Promoting the market via the website and social media.
  • Building relations with members and stakeholders of the greater community.
Double Bucks Administration (funded by Duke Health Grant at $20/hr)
  • Double Bucks record keeping duties – tracking Double Bucks distribution weekly
  • Submitting Double Bucks report to the fiscal sponsor monthly
  • Communicating with stakeholders regarding the Double Bucks program, setting up outreach events, promoting the program to potential customers, conducting market surveys
  • Attending Triangle Double Bucks meetings quarterly
Desired skills and attributes:
  • Knowledge of the seasonal qualities of agriculture in the North Carolina Piedmont.
  • Computer proficiency: email, word, website maintenance, social media apps
  • A passion for local food
  • Customer service oriented, the ability to manage a group of diverse individuals, conflict resolution skills and above all a positive attitude.
  • Ability to comfortably lift and move 50 lbs. of equipment and to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
The success of the Assistant Market Manager is measured by their success of sustaining and growing the customer base of the market, and growing the market overall. The Assistant Market Manager is responsible for documenting his or her impact on the market, and should include weekly market data.
The Assistant Market Manager works on average 12 hours per week with a starting pay of $15-17/hour. Double Bucks Administration would be an additional 4-5 hours/month at $20/hour.
